Celebrate this year’s Fiestas Patrias at the Villa Parke Community Center, 363 E. Villa St.
Sponsored by the City’s Human Services and Recreation Department, the free festival commemorates 18 Latin American countries’ independence from Spain, including Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The lively, family celebration features:
- The Parade of Flags
- Crowning of the new Queen by City officials
- Children’s art activities
- Boxing and ju jitsu demonstrations
- Live music and dance performances by Ignacio Hernandez y su Mariachi, Ballet Folklorico Nahuatzen and Aztec dance group Yankuititl, who will also showcase traditional costumes from various Latin American countries.
For-sale food will be available on-site, and exhibitors from City departments and local outreach organizations will provide giveaways and information about community services.
From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., soccer fans can watch teams from the Villa-Parke Recreational Youth Soccer League compete in a tournament at the Villa-Parke soccer field.
