Open Day at the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden returns Sunday, January 31 after taking a break for the holidays.

At 2:00 p.m., there will be a special concert by Saeko Kujiraoka and Miriam Suzuki, who combine their talents on two instruments popular in different cultures to form Harp & Koto Duo.

The Koto is a traditional Japanese instrument—a zither about six feet long, with thirteen silk strings passed over small movable bridges. Its delicate sound adds a poetic resonance when paired with the romantic notes of the harp.

Hours for Open Day are 10:00 – 4:00. The concert is free with admission. Reservations may be made on the website for $7.50 or pay $10 cash or check upon arrival.

Our group Matsutoyo Kai plays Japanese traditional folk songs with instrument called Shamisen. Is there any interest for this type of cultural display at this garden? We’re an NPO and would love to come and do our performance.
