The concert was held at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena. It kicked off with the first song Beyoncé and Jay-Z ever recorded together, “’03 Bonnie & Clyde,” and quickly transitioned between solo performances and joint performances. Songs that dated over ten years like “Crazy in Love” were reborn on stage and merged with the latest hits like “Partition” and “Tom Ford.” The choreography was stunning and the energy that came from the stage and the audience was strong enough to light up a city. Although it rained during parts of the show, many did not seem to mind as they kept singing along to some of their favorite songs.
The concert provided no clarification for the rumors that flooded social media about the current status of the married couple. There was even speculation that the tour would be cancelled altogether. On Saturday night, the couple performed songs with all different messages and genres as the night went on from love to heartbreak and back and forth.
The main focus of the night revolved around the theme “On the Run,” representing that no matter what challenges arise, their love will continue through obstacles. “I don’t care if we[‘re] on the run, baby as long as I’m next to you.”
The concert is predicted to be the second highest grossing tour of all time, netting around 100 million, after U2′s 360° concert, which made over 700 million. Around 1 million tickets are expected to be sold and Beyonce and Jay Z are donating one dollar from every ticket sold to the Shawn Carter Foundation to go toward scholarships for underprivileged kids going to college.
The concert concluded with a mash-up of Beyoncé’s “Halo” and Jay-Z’s “Young Forever.” When they asked everyone in the audience to light their phones, a sea of shining lights filled the stadium as unseen footage of Blue Ivy’s birth and the couple’s wedding video projected from the televisions.
Even the rain couldn’t stop the couple from giving an amazing performance.
