As Greg Gunther, president of Downtown Neighborhood Association, said at DPNA’s mayoral forum last month, “We are in the process of hiring one person for the job.”

As we approach Valentine’s Day, tell us who would you love to see get the job as the next mayor of Pasadena?

Below is a list of all mayoral candidates with names arranged in ballot order (based on random drawing by the Secretary of State). Click on the candidate’s photo to link to their prospective official website, for a refresher on where they stand on the issues.

For these reasons, the polls are not presented as scientific surveys, rather a reflection of the opinion of those who chose to participate of the general population of our readership areas.

Your mayoral poll is important to forward for Jacque’s campaign. Could you please post it-link to her campaign page?! I’m just ‘in the know’ after mayoral candidate forum held at central library last eve. But very on board to help build the coalitions she still needs to rise above white privilege (sorry guys).
Please contact Jacque’s people with your poll numbers on Feb 14!! Thank you!

      3. Bob Stern says:

Jacque Robinson has my vote. We all know she’s qualified and I’m not afraid to be led by a qualified woman.

      4. Don Bremner, Pasadena says:

The Sierra Club has endorsed Terry Tornek for Mayor of Pasadena in the March 10 primary election. I would be happy to email the press release to you.

        • Will Owen says:

After the mess with the Roving Archers, and the obvious falsehoods put forth against keeping their 80+-year tenure in the Arroyo that Terry not only ignored but apparently endorsed, it now appears that I may have to re-think my opinion of the Sierra Club. As much, I regret to say, as I have adjusted my regard for the Bogaards.

      5. Al Cullen says:

Terry is by far and away the Most qualified candidate and has an interest in representing the residents in all of the City– not just north of the 210 as well as the business sector. This City has some serious problems that only Terry is qualified to lead and solve for us with his knowledge and experience.
Thanks, Terry for uncovering the 6.4 Million and continue the bird dogging.

      6. Andy Wilson says:

How lucky we are to have a wonderful range of candidates running to be our next mayor for the City that so many of us love. I have to confess that I am a bit of a geek on local politics and it seems that the stand-out candidate is Terry Tornek (I am fortunate to know most of the candidates personally and respect them all in different ways). Terry has both the credentials (Princeton/Columbia), experience (City Council/Planning Commission etc) and passion (going door to door for over a year) for the job. He has worked on the inside (leading the redevelopment of Old Pasdena as Pasadena’s director of planning) and then in the private sector and then into local government (council person for District 7 & serving on the Burbank Airport Authority). He is both old enough to be wise and young enough to still have fire in his belly. Terry can dig deep (you might know that it was his relentless “probing” that uncovered the recent $6.4m rip-off of the City — if you listen to the tapes you will see what I mean) but sometimes that is what you must do to get the job done (not always glamorous!). So if you look at the job description and the candidates, I think the choice is fairly clear. . . . Terry Tornek.

        • Hildegarde Jones says:

A mayor, unlike a member of the city council, needs to listen to others, encourage them to participate, draw all members of the council and the community together. It appears to me that Tornek lacks this ability. He has good educational credentials and some experience with city government — yes. But he seems to lack the graciousness of a Mayor Bogaard or the apparent ability to listen and coordinate that are evident in Morgan and Robinson. He has good technical skills and experience that are useful for the member of a committee. Still, I don’t get a sense of how he will pull a team together and effectively lead the council.

          • Andy Wilson says:

Mayor Bogaard has created a terrific legacy and helped elevate Pasadena in so many ways (we must credit Claire as well in key areas such as historic preservation). I much admire Bill’s statesman skills and consensus building prowess. That being said I think recent issues suggest we need some who is comfortable taking a slight pause to look inward at how we operate our city and delivery services to our community. This requires a level of technical expertise, focus and diligence. . . and at times someone who is willing to challenge the status quo. So while this part of good governance may not be “sexy” we cannot have a world class city unless we execute the business of the City well. So while candidates Morgan and Robison may be smoother (heck Terry is from New York where people tend to speak their minds!), I don’t see them as proficient in key areas that are vital to the current challenges in front of us. Terry’s more hands-on/direct style is just what we need at this time to ensure we consistently deliver on the promise of being a great city.

      7. JAY says:

If District 1 is an example of how the city will be I say no to Jacque Robinson, Tornek more of the same. I like Morgan a fresh positive face for Pasadena.

      8. Will Owen says:

Having been impressed with Jacque Robinson’s marshalling Council votes in favor of the Roving Archers, and disgusted with Tornek’s opposition, I changed my opinion about both of them and decided she had the gumption we need. The fact that she didn’t join in the 710 Extension-bashing cemented the deal. I like her style.

I am opposed to the tunnel option for completion of the 710 extension for the reasons sited previously…I believe the best option for Pasadena at this point is to continue to study some of the other options that are on the table that include the hard rail and the light rail options, we do need, as I said it’s a regional issue and we do need a way to get goods from the port to wherever they’re going … As Mayor and as a city council member, from this point on I am going to choose to, um, advocate, write letters, um, do whatever I can and use the voice that we have as a city and as with the support of the community behind me to advocagte against the tunnel option.

          • Will Owen says:

Oh, well … I guess you can’t get elected for anything around here unless you join that crowd. As for me, I look at the map and see not a “so-called ‘gap’ ” but an actual obvious missing-something-here GAP … and I don’t blame Alhambra for being tired of it.

      9. Linda Centell says:

There’s an interesting article in the Star-News about who is writing the biggest checks for these candidates. It lets me know who their friends are, and who has their ear.

      11. Ken Buchanan says:

How do you find out which way they lean. I saw that Jacque Robinson is endorsed by the LA Democratic Party so I assume she is Democrat.

      12. J.j. OMalley says:

Although I read the bios of 5 of the 6 candidates in the ballot mailed to my home I saw nothing denoting their political party affiliation? Is every candidate a Democrat?

        • Bob Stanley says:

By law, this office (Mayor) is a non-partisan. A candidate’s political affiliation is not shown on the ballot. Not all of the candidates are democrats.
